Delhi’s worsening air quality has sparked a fresh political slugfest, with Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena pulling out the big guns — a 15-page letter — and aiming it straight at former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
In the letter, Saxena squarely blamed the previous AAP government for what he called “11 years of neglect and criminal inaction”, holding it responsible for pushing the national capital into yet another air pollution emergency.
But while the letter made waves in political circles, it was social media that truly caught fire.
Netizens wasted no time turning the episode into a meme fest. One user mocked the blame game, asking,
“Lol, what were the Central Government and 7/7 BJP MPs doing for 12 years? Afghan Jalebi?”
Another sarcastically suggested expanding the mailing list, saying, “Write a letter to Nehru and Indira also — maybe they’ll come back and fix the air.” A third comment summed up public frustration bluntly: “When will they stop blaming each other and start working on the ground?” Adding to the irony, one user quipped, “And then they’ll say ‘LG is independent’.”
The political heat comes at a time when Delhi is now under a BJP-led government, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the helm — raising fresh questions about accountability and action going forward.
Meanwhile, nature seemed to join the chaos. Dense fog and smog blanketed Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning, slashing visibility, slowing traffic, and worsening already toxic air levels. Commuters struggled through the murky air as pollution and politics mixed into a familiar Delhi winter cocktail.
