In a major development symbolizing a growing wave of national integration in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday announced that three more organisations—Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League, and Kashmir Freedom Front—have severed ties with the separatist Hurriyat Conference.
Sharing the update on X, Shah wrote, “Modi Ji's vision for a united and powerful Bharat stands even more bolstered today.” He described the move as a “significant demonstration of the people's trust in the Constitution of India within the valley.”
With these three groups stepping away from separatist ideology, the total number of such organisations distancing themselves from Hurriyat and embracing the Indian democratic mainstream has now risen to 11 in recent months.
Earlier in March, Shah had revealed that two other groups—J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal and J&K Tahreek-I-Istiqamat—had also abandoned separatist ideology. At the time, he had declared, “Under the Modi government, separatism is breathing its last, and the triumph of unity is echoing across Kashmir.”
The statement marks a turning point in the Centre’s strategy to root out separatism and insurgency in the valley, a move that has been backed by visible shifts on the ground. Analysts believe these political defections signal an increasing acceptance of Indian democracy and constitutional values among former dissenting groups.
In another emotional moment that underlined the Centre’s solidarity with those safeguarding national integrity, Amit Shah on Monday met the family of Kirti Chakra awardee DSP Humayun Muzammil Bhat, who was martyred in 2023 during an anti-terror operation in Kokernag, J&K.
“DSP Humayun Muzammil Bhatt of the J&K Police made the ultimate sacrifice during an operation against terrorists in Kokarnag, J&K, in 2023, setting an immortal example of valor and patriotism. Today, I met the martyr's family in Srinagar and extended my heartfelt condolences,” Shah posted on X, sharing pictures of his interaction with Bhat’s wife and their 20-month-old son.
