Heavy rains overnight have plunged Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) into chaos, leading to widespread disruptions in flight operations and city life. As the downpour intensified, 27 inbound flights were diverted to airports in Hyderabad, Indore, and Ahmedabad due to adverse weather conditions and poor visibility. The airport's management swiftly responded by prioritizing arrivals and coordinating efforts to manage delayed departures. Runway operations were temporarily suspended from 2:22 am to 3:40 am to ensure passenger safety amidst challenging weather conditions.
An MIAL spokesperson expressed the challenges faced, stating, "We are giving priority to handling arriving flights and are making every effort to accommodate the delayed departures. The suspension of runway operations was necessary during the peak of the rainfall to maintain safety standards."
Major airlines, including Air India, SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Vistara, utilized social media platforms to update passengers about flight delays and advised travelers to check their flight statuses before heading to the airport. The disruptions at CSMIA mirrored broader issues across Mumbai, with reports of waterlogging, extensive traffic congestion, and disruptions to local train services exacerbating the city's transport woes.

"The situation remains challenging with continuous rainfall affecting various parts of Mumbai," noted an IMD official, underscoring the ongoing weather-related challenges.
