In a fiery allegation that adds fuel to the ongoing political friction, Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), its leader Arvind Kejriwal, and the Punjab government of deliberately reducing the water supply to Delhi as an act of political revenge following their electoral defeat in the national capital.
Speaking to the media, Verma claimed that the people of Delhi are being “punished” for voting against AAP in the recent Lok Sabha elections. "Delhi has been receiving less water for the last week because the Punjab government, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, and AAP are avenging the people of Delhi for their loss in the Delhi elections... AAP is angry with the people of Delhi as they have lost the election here, and hence, they are giving less water to Delhi. It is a conspiracy of Arvind Kejriwal and people will not spare him for this dirty politics..." said Verma.
The statement comes amidst a growing water crisis in parts of Delhi, with residents complaining of low water pressure and erratic supply, especially in densely populated areas. The Delhi Jal Board has acknowledged reduced inflows from the Yamuna, attributing it to lower upstream releases.
Verma’s remarks intensify the political blame game between the BJP and AAP, which has governed Delhi since 2015. While AAP has not officially responded to Verma’s claims, insiders from the party dismissed the accusations as “baseless and politically motivated.”
