Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has raised alarm over the deteriorating state of public transport in the national capital, highlighting massive financial losses and a shrinking bus fleet. She accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to meet public transport needs, despite a Supreme Court mandate.

Speaking on the issue, CM Gupta said, "The number of buses, which was 4,344 in 2015, reduced to only 3,937 in 2023, and it has further declined. What is the situation now? There is a loss in everything. The ₹60 crore loss has now increased to ₹80 crore due to interest and other expenses. The operational loss stands at ₹14,000 crore. In 2007, the Supreme Court mandated 11,000 buses for Delhi, but by 2023, the number remained only 3,937."

The CM's remarks come amid growing concerns over the efficiency of Delhi’s transport system, with experts pointing out the impact on commuters due to the lack of sufficient buses. Despite the court order requiring the city to have at least 11,000 buses, the fleet has seen a steady decline over the years.
