In a significant display of diplomatic engagement, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held high-level discussions with Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi on Thursday, reaffirming India’s commitment to regional peace and stability. The conversation comes in the wake of the brutal Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians.
“I deeply appreciate his condemnation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack,” Jaishankar posted on X following the dialogue. “Welcomed his firm rejection of recent attempts to create distrust between India and Afghanistan through false and baseless reports.”
The meeting addressed recent accusations from Pakistan alleging Indian missile strikes on Afghan soil — claims Jaishankar dismissed as deliberate misinformation aimed at derailing the relationship between New Delhi and Kabul. Muttaqi’s public denouncement of such rumors was recognized by India as a vital gesture of trust and solidarity.
Emphasizing India’s continued support, Jaishankar added, “Underlined our traditional friendship with the Afghan people and continuing support for their development needs. Discussed ways and means of taking cooperation forward.”
In a packed diplomatic calendar, Jaishankar also inaugurated the Embassy of the Republic of Honduras in New Delhi alongside Honduran Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina on Friday, marking a new chapter in Indo-Honduran ties.
“This occasion marks a significant milestone and opens up a promising new chapter in the warm and longstanding relationship between our two countries,” said Jaishankar during the inauguration ceremony.
The event was more than symbolic — it highlighted India's expanding global engagement beyond immediate neighborhoods. Jaishankar lauded Honduras for standing with India in condemning the Pahalgam attack and reaffirmed both nations’ united front against terrorism.
“The embassy’s opening is a testament to India and Honduras’s shared vision and mutual commitment to deepen bilateral ties,” Jaishankar said, reinforcing New Delhi’s broader foreign policy strategy of diversifying international partnerships and confronting global terrorism through collective action.
