Early Life and Education
Dipti Sakariya was born around 1985–86. She completed her 10th-grade education from Sadguru Vidyalay in Katargam, Surat, in 1997. Her early years reflect a grounded upbringing in the Katargam-Ved Road area, which she would later go on to represent politically.
Political Career
In February 2021, Dipti Sakariya entered electoral politics as a candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Contesting from Ward 7 (Katargam–Ved Road) in the Surat Municipal Corporation elections, she secured a convincing victory, becoming one of the four AAP corporators elected from Surat. This win was part of AAP’s first breakthrough in Gujarat’s local governance landscape.
Currently, she serves as a corporator and is part of the AAP’s opposition group in the Surat Municipal Corporation, working under the leadership of Opposition Leader Payal Sakariya. While she does not hold any ministerial position at the state or national level, she plays an active role in local governance and party activities within the municipal framework.
Major Achievements and Contributions
As the elected representative of Ward 7, Dipti Sakariya has been actively involved in the planning and utilization of development grants allocated to her ward. She has consistently focused on addressing the civic needs of her constituents, especially in areas of infrastructure improvement and basic amenities.
During the 2021 election, she received an impressive 22,136 votes—emerging as the highest vote-getter in her ward, surpassing candidates from major parties including the BJP. Her performance was recognized as a symbol of rising public trust in grassroots leadership and accountability.
Key Political Initiatives and Agenda
Dipti Sakariya has persistently raised pressing civic issues in Surat Municipal Corporation meetings. One of her key focus areas has been flood management and road damage, particularly in monsoon-prone areas of her ward. In July 2025, she joined other opposition corporators in a symbolic protest by wearing mud-stained clothes to highlight the administration’s failure in managing waterlogging and drainage. (TOI)
Her political agenda strongly emphasizes improving civic infrastructure, maintaining cleanliness, ensuring reliable drainage systems, and providing essential amenities to residents. She has also been an advocate for transparency and responsive governance.
Promises and Future Commitments
During her campaign in 2021, Dipti Sakariya and other AAP candidates pledged to work on enhancing road quality, upgrading drainage systems, and implementing long-term solutions for flood mitigation in Katargam-Ved Road. These promises aligned with AAP’s broader developmental vision for Surat.
She remains committed to:
Ensuring timely execution of infrastructure projects.
-
Strengthening monsoon preparedness through effective drainage.
-
Enforcing transparency and accountability in civic works.
-
Upholding political integrity by resisting defections and political pressure.
Political Challenges and Allegations
The political landscape in Surat took a turbulent turn in 2023 when six AAP corporators defected to the BJP. Dipti Sakariya stood firm and claimed that she too was approached and offered money to switch sides. However, she refused the offer and reiterated her loyalty to the Aam Aadmi Party and its principles. (NDTV)
In June 2024, a political controversy erupted when BJP councillors accused AAP’s Opposition Leader Payal Sakariya of extortion. Although Dipti Sakariya was not personally implicated, she stood in solidarity with Payal and supported the legal steps taken in response to the allegations.
