Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Friday sharply criticised the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for its protest inside Parliament against the VB-G RAM G Bill 2025, accusing the party of misusing Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy while engaging in disorderly conduct.
Responding to the protests staged during the passage of the bill, Paswan said that political parties invoking Mahatma Gandhi should reflect on his principles, which, he emphasised, stood for dignity, discipline, and peaceful dissent. He said Gandhi never endorsed disrespecting the Chair or disrupting proceedings while ministers were addressing the House.
The Union Minister questioned the manner in which the protest was carried out, stating that throwing papers and shouting slogans inside Parliament runs contrary to the values of non-violence and decorum that Gandhi practised throughout his life.
Paswan also raised a pointed question over objections to the naming of the new legislation, saying that the invocation of Lord Ram should not be controversial. He said Lord Ram was deeply revered by Mahatma Gandhi and was an integral part of his moral and spiritual worldview.
