Shiv Sena chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has further consolidated his political presence following the recent municipal corporation elections across the state. His party recorded notable performances in several key urban centres, reinforcing its organisational base after the 2022 party split.

During seat-sharing discussions with the BJP for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena secured a substantial number of seats. Party sources said Shinde personally led the negotiations, ensuring wider representation for his faction in Mumbai’s civic contest.

The Shiv Sena under Shinde also retained strong control in Thane district, considered his home turf. In multiple civic bodies, including Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar and surrounding regions, his party maintained its dominance, continuing its long-standing influence in these municipalities.

In Ambernath, Shinde’s supporters played a key role in forming the local civic leadership by coordinating with other parties. This helped the Sena secure important positions and committee control in the municipal council.

Party workers credit Shinde’s leadership style for the steady expansion of the organisation. Known for direct communication and accessibility, he has focused on strengthening booth-level networks and retaining experienced local leaders.

The recent local body elections come after his party’s performances in the Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly polls, where the Shinde-led Shiv Sena emerged as a significant partner in the ruling alliance.

With civic bodies now being formed across the state, attention has shifted to upcoming decisions on mayoral posts and committee leaderships, where Shinde’s party is expected to play an active role.
