Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi revealed that Rahul Gandhi recently held a crucial meeting with leaders of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), a regional party born out of anti-CAA protests in Assam. The meeting aimed to deeply understand the ongoing political and social challenges in the state.
During the discussion, Rahul Gandhi focused on the Assam Accords, historic agreements signed by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He also sought detailed insights into the National Register of Citizens (NRC) process, which began during the Manmohan Singh-led central government alongside the Tarun Gogoi administration in Assam.
Gogoi added that Rahul Gandhi critically evaluated the current state government’s performance, highlighting its failures and shortcomings. The meeting signifies Congress’s renewed focus on Assam’s volatile political climate and its complex citizenship issues.
