Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut sparked a fresh political controversy on Tuesday with a sharp attack on BJP leader K Annamalai over his remarks on Mumbai’s name, escalating the war of words ahead of key political battles.
Reacting to Annamalai’s statement that he is accustomed to calling Mumbai “Bombay,” Raut questioned the BJP leader’s authority and relevance in Maharashtra politics. Taking a combative tone, Raut said that those who refuse to respect Mumbai’s identity have no moral right to comment on the city or its people.
“Annamalai says he is used to calling Mumbai as Bombay. If that is his thinking, then he should return to Tamil Nadu. Who is this Annamalai anyway? People don’t even recognise him in his own state,” Raut remarked while addressing reporters.
