Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted the growing economic opportunities between India and Oman, stressing the resilience of India’s economy despite global uncertainties. Addressing a business forum, Modi pointed to India’s economic reforms and policy transformations as key drivers of sustained growth.
“Oman has immense opportunities in India’s growth journey. Today in the business world, there is a lot of discussion about the resilience of India’s economy. People often ask how, amid so much global uncertainty and a struggling global economy, India is achieving growth of over one percent. I will tell you the main reason. Over the past eleven years, India has not just changed its policies; it has transformed its economic DNA,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister cited major reforms such as the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which has unified India into a single market, enhancing ease of doing business and boosting trade. He also highlighted other structural initiatives that have strengthened India’s global economic position and attracted foreign investment.
Modi further underlined the importance of collaboration with Oman in the field of agriculture and innovation. “Just as energy security is important, food security is equally essential. In the coming times, this will become a major dual challenge. Can we together create an India–Oman Agri-Innovation Hub? This will strengthen Oman’s food security and help take India’s agri-tech to global markets. Agriculture is one sector, but innovation must be encouraged across all sectors,” he said.
The proposed Agri-Innovation Hub aims to foster collaboration on agri-tech solutions, improve food security, and create avenues for Indian agricultural technology to expand globally. Modi emphasised that such partnerships could serve as a model for innovation-driven growth in other sectors as well.
