The explosion occurred in the factory's polished tubing unit while 87 workers were on site, confirmed Superintendent of Police (SP) Harsh Poddar. "This factory is located in Umred taluka of Nagpur. There was an explosion in the factory's polished tubing unit. The fire has not been completely controlled. The fire department is present at the spot, and fire engines are working to extinguish the fire," he told ANI.
Of the eight injured, two were reported to be in critical condition and have been shifted to Nagpur Government Medical College and Hospital, police said. The identities of the deceased are being verified, and families have been informed.
Police Inspector Dhanaji Jalak added, "Six people were injured, and two of them are in critical condition. They have been shifted to Nagpur Government Medical College and Hospital."
The fire that followed the explosion raged for hours, delaying any immediate investigation into the cause. “A total of 87 people were present inside (during the explosion). Eight people have been reported injured... After the fire is extinguished, an investigation will be conducted inside. It is difficult to go inside where the fire has occurred,” SP Poddar stated.
Later, SP Poddar confirmed the fire claimed five lives—two victims died during treatment, while three initially reported missing were later confirmed dead.
