Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has announced the formation of a three-member inquiry committee to probe allegations leveled against High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma. This follows the acceptance of an impeachment motion signed by 146 Members of Parliament.
The committee comprises Justice Arvind Kumar of the Supreme Court, Justice Maninder Mohan Srivastava, Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, and senior advocate BV Acharya from the Karnataka High Court. Speaker Birla stated that the committee will submit its report at the earliest possible date.
“The proposal regarding the impeachment will remain pending until the receipt of the inquiry committee’s report,” Birla said, emphasizing the importance of a thorough investigation before any further action.
