In a landslide victory in the 2026 Maharashtra municipal elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dominated the state’s urban local bodies, winning a total of 1,425 of 2,869 seats across 29 municipal corporations. The results underline the BJP’s growing urban influence in the state.
In Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the BJP won 89 seats, while its alliance partner, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, secured 29 seats, ensuring that the Mahayuti alliance crossed the majority mark in the 227-member House. The Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena won 65 seats, while the MNS captured 6 seats. Other winners included Congress (24), AIMIM (8), NCP (3), Samajwadi Party (2), and NCP (SP) (1).
