Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Sunday convened a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan with senior officials and several BJP legislators, including former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, officials confirmed.

The closed-door discussions are being viewed as significant, coming just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s anticipated trip to Manipur in the second week of September. If confirmed, it would mark Modi’s first visit to the northeastern state since ethnic clashes erupted in May 2023.

Among those present were Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh. BJP’s state unit president A Sharda Devi also joined the meeting. While the official agenda was not disclosed, party sources told PTI that preparations for the Prime Minister’s possible visit featured prominently in the talks.

According to reports, Modi is scheduled to be in Mizoram on September 13 to inaugurate the new Bairabi–Sairang railway line. From there, he could fly to Imphal, though no official confirmation has yet been issued.
