Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended India’s full support to US President Donald Trump’s ambitious 20-point peace initiative, aimed at halting Israel’s prolonged military campaign in Gaza and restoring stability to the region.
In a post on X, Modi hailed the plan as a blueprint for “long term and sustainable peace, security and development,” urging all stakeholders to unite behind the effort. “We welcome President Donald J Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region. We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace,” he wrote.
The peace roadmap, unveiled at the White House earlier in the day, was presented by Trump alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It outlines a ceasefire deal requiring Hamas to halt attacks immediately and release all hostages within 72 hours. To manage the transition, the proposal introduces a temporary technocratic administration in Gaza under an international “Board of Peace,” chaired by Trump and joined by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The agreement prohibits Israel from annexing Gaza, while offering Hamas fighters who renounce violence an amnesty and safe passage abroad. International and regional forces would be tasked with maintaining security and training a restructured Palestinian police force.
Netanyahu endorsed the framework but issued a stern warning that Israel would “finish the job” militarily if Hamas refused to comply. Trump echoed the sentiment, vowing Washington’s “full backing” for Israeli action in case of rejection.
