In a shocking incident on Wednesday, a 19-year-old former student opened fire on the headmaster of a government high school in Nalanda district during class hours. The assailant, identified as Jagan, also known as Udal Kumar, fired multiple rounds at the 55-year-old headmaster, Santosh Kumar, with one of the bullets striking his leg.
CCTV footage of the incident, which has surfaced online, reveals the harrowing moments of the attack. The video shows the accused entering the headmaster's office armed with a gun. He shoots at the headmaster, who is seen sitting on a chair and looking at his phone. The headmaster leaps out of the chair as the attacker steps back to reload his weapon, then fires another shot, hitting the headmaster's leg.
The incident was promptly reported to the police, who analyzed the CCTV footage to identify the shooter. However, as of the time this report was published, the accused had not been apprehended.
The attack has drawn sharp criticism of the state government?s handling of law and order. Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav condemned the incident and criticized the state government for the deteriorating security situation in Bihar. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Yadav expressed his outrage in Hindi:
"In Bihar, the audacity of government criminals is so high that yesterday, while both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister were present in the CM's home district of Nalanda, government goons entered a school openly, shot the head teacher, and created a ruckus."
He further accused the government of inaction, stating, "The Prime Minister will call it Ram Rajya after seeing the colour of the clothes and gamchha of the accused. Anyway, the elections are over now, so the Prime Minister will see the so-called Jungle Raj of 25 years ago in the upcoming election campaign. As long as all the CM NDA have the same attitude, government criminals will continue to sacrifice thousands of citizens under the protection of the government whenever and wherever they want."
