A new video of Dr Muhammad Umar Nabi, the suicide bomber involved in the Delhi car blast, surfaced online on Tuesday, offering insight into his extremist views. In the footage, Dr Nabi attempts to justify suicide bombing, describing it as a “misunderstood” act and referring to it as a “martyrdom operation” in Islam.
“One of the very misunderstood concepts is the concept of what has been labelled as suicide bombing. It is a martyrdom operation... known in Islam,” he says in the video.
He further adds, “There are multiple arguments and contradictions that have been brought against it. Martyrdom operation is when a person presumes that he is going for sure die at a particular place at a particular time, he goes against the presumption that a particular person is going to die. He is going to die in a particular situation.”
The blast took place at 6:52 pm on Monday outside Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, where Dr Nabi detonated an explosive-laden Hyundai i20 car. DNA tests have reportedly confirmed that Dr Nabi was driving the vehicle, with samples matching those of his mother.
The incident occurred just a day after the Jammu & Kashmir Police and Haryana Police seized 2.900 kg of explosives. Prior investigations, including the arrest of Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, had already led to the recovery of significant quantities of explosive material. On November 9, Dr Muzammil Shakeel of Al-Falah College was also detained, and Dr Nabi—believed to be closely associated with Shakeel—allegedly carried out the attack in panic.
