'Only Leader Who Never Bowed Down': Priyanka Gandhi Defends Rahul In Lok Sabha

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra strongly defended Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi in Parliament on Monday, stating that he is the only political leader who has not “bowed down” to the ruling side over the past 12 years. Her remarks came during a heated debate in the Lok Sabha on a no-confidence motion moved against Speaker Om Birla.

Speaking during the discussion, Priyanka Gandhi praised Rahul Gandhi’s role as the opposition’s voice in Parliament and accused the ruling side of being uncomfortable with the issues he raises. According to her, Rahul Gandhi has consistently challenged the government on matters affecting the country.

“There is only one person in the country who has not bowed down before them in the last 12 years. It is the Leader of the Opposition. They cannot digest the truth he speaks,” Priyanka Gandhi said while addressing the House.

Her comments immediately triggered strong reactions from members on the treasury benches, leading to heated exchanges during the session.

The debate took place after Congress MP Mohammad Jawed moved a no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla on March 10. The motion accuses the Speaker of allegedly displaying partisan behaviour in the functioning of the House.

Opposition members claimed that the Speaker has repeatedly interrupted opposition leaders during their speeches and has restricted their ability to raise key public issues in Parliament. They argued that such actions undermine the principles of fair debate in the House.

The no-confidence motion has intensified political tensions between the ruling alliance and opposition parties, turning the parliamentary debate into a sharp political confrontation. As discussions continue, both sides are expected to present their arguments over the conduct and neutrality of the Speaker in the functioning of Parliament.
