Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for a high-profile two-day visit, signaling a renewed push to deepen India’s ties with one of its most crucial partners in the Gulf region. Invited by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, the visit is expected to elevate the growing India-Saudi relationship to new strategic heights.

Ahead of his departure, PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Leaving for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where I will be attending various meetings and programmes. India values our historic relations with Saudi Arabia. Bilateral ties have gained significant momentum in the last decade. I look forward to participating in the 2nd Meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council. I will also be interacting with the Indian community there.”

This marks Modi’s third visit to Saudi Arabia, making him the most frequent Indian Prime Minister to engage with the Kingdom in recent decades. By contrast, previous Indian PMs collectively visited Saudi Arabia only three times in over seventy years. Modi’s current Gulf outreach also counts as his 15th visit to the region, underscoring India's emphasis on strategic cooperation with the Arab world.

Media reports have confirmed that at least six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are set to be signed on Tuesday across areas such as energy cooperation, digital economy, investment, pharmaceuticals, and cultural exchange. Final negotiations on several other key agreements were still underway late Monday night.

The focal point of the visit will be the 2nd Strategic Partnership Council meeting, co-chaired by Modi and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The forum, established in 2019 during Modi’s previous visit, has become a crucial platform for accelerating bilateral cooperation in defence, trade, and regional security.

With both nations sharing strong energy ties and a growing interest in technology and clean energy, officials believe this visit could catalyze long-term joint projects, especially in the hydrogen economy, space collaboration, and critical infrastructure development.
