PM Modi In London: 'No Place For Double Standards In Fight Against Terrorism'

In a strong message from London, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the global fight against terrorism cannot be selective or compromised by "double standards." His remarks, delivered during a joint media briefing with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, appeared to indirectly criticize nations like Pakistan for enabling extremism while calling for peace.

PM Modi thanked his British counterpart for extending support after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives. He confirmed that security agencies from India and the UK will deepen cooperation in key areas, including counter-terrorism and the extradition of economic fugitives.

“There is no place for double standards in the fight against terrorism,” PM Modi said, underlining the need for a unified and uncompromising stance. “We agree that forces with extremist ideologies cannot be allowed to misuse democratic freedoms,” he added, a clear message aimed at countries accused of harboring or supporting radical groups.

The timing of Modi’s remarks is crucial, coming just a day after Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed willingness to resume dialogue with India. Sharif, during a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott in Islamabad, claimed Pakistan was ready for a “meaningful dialogue” with India on unresolved issues.

However, bilateral ties between India and Pakistan have sharply deteriorated following the Pahalgam attack. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, a counter-terror mission that reportedly targeted multiple terror camps inside Pakistani territory.
