Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to start functioning from a newly built office complex named ‘Seva Teerth’, marking a significant milestone in India’s administrative history. The move is part of the Central Government’s ambitious Central Vista redevelopment project, aimed at modernising the country’s key governance infrastructure.

The transition to the new office is scheduled to take place on January 14, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. This date has been chosen for its cultural and traditional importance, symbolising new beginnings. With this shift, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will operate from a new location for the first time since India gained Independence.

The Seva Teerth complex has been specially designed to accommodate three crucial institutions of the Union government — the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). Each of these bodies will function from separate, purpose-built buildings within the same campus, ensuring both coordination and operational independence.

The relocation also signals the end of an era for South Block, which has housed the PMO for decades. Once vacated, both South Block and North Block will be transformed into a public museum titled ‘India Through the Ages’. This museum is expected to showcase the evolution of India’s governance, administration, and historical milestones, offering citizens deeper insight into the nation’s journey.

In addition to the new office, construction is underway on a new official residence for the Prime Minister near the Seva Teerth complex. Prime Minister Modi is currently residing at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg and is expected to move to the new residence once the construction work is completed.

The Seva Teerth campus spans over 226,000 square feet and has been built at an estimated cost of ₹1,189 crore by infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro. The complex features state-of-the-art meeting rooms, facilities for hosting foreign dignitaries, and a newly designed Cabinet meeting hall. The interiors blend modern technology with design elements inspired by India’s cultural heritage.
