In a high-impact address at the G7 Summit’s Outreach Session on June 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a firm and impassioned message, urging world leaders to confront terrorism without compromise, lead the way on responsible AI governance, and champion the interests of the Global South.
Speaking in front of an influential global audience, PM Modi described the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam not as a mere act of violence but as “an assault on the soul, identity, and dignity of every Indian, and indeed, on humanity itself.”
He didn’t mince words when demanding that nations sponsoring or sheltering terrorism be held accountable: “There must be no ambiguity. If a country supports terrorism, it must be held accountable.”
The Prime Minister also made a pointed appeal to the conscience of the global community: “Will countries understand the grave threat posed by terrorism only when they become a target? How can perpetrators of terror and its victims be equated?”
In the session focused on energy security and the future of technology, Modi linked India’s development goals with global sustainability. He spotlighted India’s strides in renewable energy, stating that clean sources already constitute 50% of the nation’s installed power capacity, with a firm commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2070.
“Artificial Intelligence itself is an energy-intensive technology. The only sustainable way to meet the energy demands of a technology-driven world is through renewable energy,” he remarked.
He also issued a strong call for international cooperation on AI regulation, warning about the misuse of generative AI and deepfakes:
“There must be clear watermarks or disclosures on AI-generated content.”
Throughout his speech, Modi consistently returned to the theme of inclusive development. Stressing India’s role as a bridge between the developed and developing world, he said, “True technological progress must be inclusive. No country, especially in the Global South, should be left behind.”
