Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of manipulating the Constitution for political gains and failing to uphold its core principles. Speaking at a public gathering, PM Modi criticized Congress for what he called a legacy of using constitutional provisions as tools to retain power, particularly during the Emergency period.

“Congress made the Constitution a tool for gaining power. During Emergency, the spirit of the Constitution was killed to retain power,” said Modi, highlighting the party’s alleged misuse of constitutional authority to suppress democratic rights.

He also addressed the issue of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), praising Uttarakhand for taking the initiative to implement it. “The Constitution talks about a secular civil code, but Congress never implemented it. Today, the uniform civil code has been implemented in Uttarakhand. Unfortunately, the Congress is opposing this,” Modi remarked.

Accusing Congress of exploiting reservation policies for vote bank politics, the Prime Minister said, “Congress never bothered to check if the benefits of reservation reached SC/ST and OBC communities.” He further alleged that Congress introduced a law to provide reservation based on religion in government tenders, a move that contradicts constitutional values laid out by B.R. Ambedkar.

“To play politics, Congress brought a law to give reservation on the basis of religion in government tenders. This is when Baba Saheb Ambedkar, in the Constitution, said that there should be no place for reservation on the basis of religion,” Modi stated.

He also criticized the party for altering Waqf Board rules for alleged political benefit, saying, “Congress also changed Waqf rules for its own benefit.”
