Punjab is reeling under its worst floods in more than three decades, with all 23 districts affected and at least 30 lives lost so far. Torrential rains and overflowing rivers have left villages submerged, houses destroyed, and farmlands washed away, bringing back memories of the devastating 1988 floods. Rescue operations by the NDRF, SDRF, armed forces, and local authorities are continuing on a war footing.

Amid the widespread destruction, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has stepped forward to support relief efforts. Announcing his decision on social media, Chadha said he is allocating ₹3.25 crore from his MPLAD Funds for flood protection and rehabilitation work.

"Punjab is battling one of the worst floods in recent history. Homes destroyed, farmlands submerged, cattle lost & 30 precious lives gone. From my MPLAD Funds, I am allocating ₹3.25 crore towards: ₹2.75 crore for strengthening flood protection embankments so that our villages remain safe from floods in future, and ₹50 lakh for relief & rehabilitation," Chadha posted on X.

He added, “This is Punjab’s money, for Punjab’s people. I will also raise this issue in Parliament & appeal to the Centre for maximum support.”

In a video message, the AAP MP painted a grim picture of the crisis, saying families had lost their homes, farmers had seen entire crops submerged within minutes, and countless cattle had been swept away. “In this flood, we have lost 30 lives. I pay my respects to every departed soul,” he said.

Despite the devastation, Chadha praised the resilience of Punjabis and saluted those engaged in relief work. He lauded the armed forces, NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, BSF, doctors, NGOs, and youth volunteers who have been risking their lives to save others.

Reiterating his commitment as a parliamentarian, Chadha said, “As a Member of Parliament from Punjab, it is my duty to extend all possible support to the state in this difficult time. This allocation will strengthen embankments for the future and provide immediate relief to affected families.”
