A massive protest erupted outside the Rajasthan Assembly on Monday as Congress workers demanded an apology from Minister Avinash Gehlot over his remarks against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Senior party leaders, including MPs Harish Meena, Murari Meena, and former minister BD Kalla, joined the demonstration.
The controversy began last Friday during Question Hour when Gehlot, the state’s social welfare minister, made a remark targeting the opposition. Referring to a scheme for working women's hostels, he said, "In the 2023-24 budget as well, like always, you named the scheme after your 'dadi' (grandmother) Indira Gandhi."

His comment triggered outrage among Congress MLAs, leading to three adjournments and the suspension of six legislators, including PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasara, Ramkesh Meena, Amin Kagzi, Jakir Hussain, and Sanjay Kumar. Enraged by the suspensions, Congress MLAs staged a sit-in inside the Assembly premises, demanding their revocation.
On Monday, Congress workers took their protest to the Assembly gates but were stopped by police barricades. Party leaders have vowed to continue their agitation until the minister issues an apology and the suspended MLAs are reinstated.
