At the 47th Annual General Meeting of the Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI) in Pune, an awkward standoff between Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and his nephew, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, drew significant attention. The two leaders, who have been at odds politically, were seen avoiding each other throughout the event, fueling speculation about their strained relationship.

Sources revealed that Ajit Pawar was initially scheduled to sit beside Sharad Pawar during the meeting, but the seating arrangement was changed at the last minute. Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil was instead seated between the two, while Ajit Pawar was placed farther away. Despite sharing the stage with other leaders like Dilip Walse Patil and Harshvardhan Patil, Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar neither exchanged words nor acknowledged each other during the program.

This is not the first instance of visible tension between the uncle-nephew duo. A similar situation occurred last year when Ajit Pawar skipped a meeting at the VSI, where Sharad Pawar was present. The strained dynamics between the two have become increasingly evident in public events.

Both leaders had also attended the inauguration of the '2025 Agriculture Festival' earlier this month, where they once again avoided sitting together. These repeated instances have further fueled rumors about growing discord within the NCP and the future of the party's leadership.

The event, which included prominent leaders and dignitaries, highlighted not only the achievements of the institute but also the brewing political divide between two key figures of Maharashtra politics. While neither has publicly commented on the situation, their continued avoidance at high-profile events remains a topic of interest in political circles.
