Supreme Court Dismisses Former Judge Yashwant Varma’s Plea In Burnt Cash Recovery Case

na

In a significant legal setback, the Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by former Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma, who had challenged the findings of an investigation related to the recovery of partially burnt currency from his official residence.

The petition, which sought to nullify the report submitted by an internal inquiry committee, was found unfit for consideration by the apex court. The report in question was the outcome of an internal judicial probe into the mysterious discovery of charred currency notes during a routine security inspection at Varma’s government accommodation in Delhi earlier this year.

Justice Varma had approached the Supreme Court contesting both the validity of the inquiry process and its conclusions. He also challenged a recommendation that had been forwarded to the President and Prime Minister by then Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, which suggested his removal from judicial office. The former judge contended that the inquiry was flawed, biased, and a violation of his rights.
