The Supreme Court on Tuesday came down heavily on the protests in Karnataka against the release of Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film Thug Life, asserting that mobs cannot take the law into their own hands and disrupt a film’s lawful release.
The apex court emphasized that any movie cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has the legal right to be screened and that it is the duty of the state to ensure law and order is maintained during its release.
Taking serious note of the ongoing agitation, the Court directed the Karnataka government to file a detailed response by Wednesday. The matter will next be heard on Thursday.
