Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday unveiled the State Education Policy (SEP), stating that it reflects the “unique character” of the state and is aimed at fostering equality, rational thinking, and access to quality education for all.
Speaking at the Anna Centenary Library Auditorium, Stalin emphasised that the new policy moves beyond rote learning. “Our goal is not for students to just memorise lessons but to think critically and truly understand what they study. Physical education will be integrated with academics. Importantly, we will follow only a two-language policy, and this is our unwavering commitment,” he declared.
Highlighting inclusivity, the Chief Minister said no child in Tamil Nadu would be denied education. “We will never allow education to be stopped or restricted. Our education system will not permit reactionary thinking. This policy is built to ensure samathuva kalvi (equal education) and pagutharivu kalvi (rational thought), enabling our students to compete at an international level,” he said.
Stalin also set a bold target for higher education enrollment. Currently, about 75% of school students in the state progress to higher education, but the government aims to raise this to 100%. “Every student who completes school should be able to join college. This is not just policy—it is a Dravidian model vision,” he noted, adding that the state takes pride in the fact that 901 students this year have secured admissions to premier institutions.
