After the Lok Sabha passed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025, Congress MP and JPC member Imran Masood called it a "black day", declaring that the opposition will challenge it in court.
"This is a black day… This is an attack on our rights… The Muslim community and the Waqf both are going to suffer from this… This day will be lodged as a black day in history… We will go to the court and will fight against this bill," Masood told.

Congress MP Kiran Kumar Chamala echoed his concerns, accusing the ruling party of forcing the bill through Parliament.
"They just want to pass this bill. This is their singular agenda… They have passed the bill in their own will and wish… The bulldoze governance is happening inside the parliament," Chamala said.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi walked out of the House after the bill’s passage.
The bill, which was supported by the BJP and its allies, aims to bring transparency and enhance the efficiency of Waqf boards, according to the government. After a marathon 12-hour debate, the legislation was passed with a 288-232 majority, rejecting all opposition amendments.
Defending the bill, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju slammed the opposition's criticism, saying:
"The law relating to Waqf property has been in existence for decades and has not been struck down by courts… such words should not be used lightly."
He further claimed that the bill would benefit the community:
"Crores of poor Muslims will thank PM Modi on the bill being passed."
With tensions running high, the bill now moves to the Rajya Sabha, where another heated debate is expected.
