US President Donald Trump has announced that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the White House in February for a meeting. The statement was made during a conversation with reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday, while Trump was returning to Joint Base Andrews from Florida.
Statement by President Trump
"I had a long talk with him this morning (Monday). He is going to be coming to the White House, over next month, probably February. We have a very good relationship with India," Trump said, emphasizing the strong ties between the two leaders and their nations.
This remark came in response to a query about the phone call he had with Modi earlier that day. When asked about the topics discussed, Trump responded, "Everything came up (in a phone call with Modi)."
Strong Bond Between Trump and Modi
The two leaders share a notably cordial relationship, having addressed massive public gatherings together, such as the "Howdy Modi" event in Houston in September 2019 and the "Namaste Trump" rally in Ahmedabad in February 2020.
President Trump's final international trip during his previous term was to India, highlighting the importance of the Indo-US relationship. Following Trump's electoral victory in November 2024, Modi was among the first three world leaders to congratulate him, underlining their close rapport.
The anticipated visit next month could further strengthen the strategic and economic ties between the two countries, while also reflecting the camaraderie between the two leaders.
