Following outrage over the alleged mistreatment and deportation of an Indian student at Newark Airport, the US Embassy in India has issued a firm statement: "The United States continues to welcome legitimate travellers to our country. However, there is no right to visit the United States. We cannot and will not tolerate illegal entry, abuse of visas, or the violation of US law."
The statement comes after a video surfaced showing the student being handcuffed and forcibly deported, sparking condemnation and calls for accountability. The Indian National Congress has criticized the government's silence on the matter, with spokesperson Supriya Srinate stating, "This is an extremely important matter. The video shows an Indian student, who went to America with dreams, being treated like a hardened criminal... For what? Because he dared to dream?" Srinate also highlighted concerns about visa backlogs, denied admissions, and alleged discriminatory deportation practices.
