The Patna District Administration has registered an FIR against Union Minister of Panchayati Raj and senior JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh for alleged violations of election conduct during campaigning. The action came after officials reviewed a viral video in which the minister was heard making remarks instructing party workers to restrict opposition leaders on polling day.
In the video, Lalan Singh is purportedly heard saying, “There are a few leaders — don’t let them step out of their homes on polling day. Keep them inside. If they make a fuss, take them to vote and then send them home to rest.” The clip quickly spread on social media, drawing widespread criticism from opposition parties and election watchdogs.
Following the controversy, the Patna District Administration examined footage collected by the video surveillance team and subsequently lodged a case.
In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the administration stated, “The video footage of the video surveillance team was examined by the Patna District Administration. Following the investigation, an FIR has been registered against Shri Lalan Singh alias Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Representation of the People Act.”
