India Celebrates Republic Day With Pride As Tricolour Soars High On Kartavya Path

India woke up to a moment of deep pride and unity on Monday as President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the national flag at Kartavya Path, marking the country’s 76th Republic Day. As the Tricolour rose against the winter sky, the national anthem echoed across the capital, followed by a powerful 21-gun salute fired from indigenous 105-mm Light Field Guns, highlighting India’s growing self-reliance in defence.

The ceremony gained global significance with the presence of distinguished international guests — Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. They were ceremonially escorted by the President’s Bodyguard, the Indian Army’s oldest and most elite regiment, adding grandeur to the historic occasion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the President at the saluting dais, witnessing a spectacular Republic Day Parade that reflected India’s cultural diversity, democratic strength, and military excellence.

A Sky Filled with National Pride

One of the most breathtaking moments came when the skies above Kartavya Path came alive with the ‘Dhwaj Formation’. Four Mi-17 helicopters flew in a stunning inverted ‘Y’ pattern, proudly carrying the National Flag along with the flags of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The formation was led by Group Captain Alok Ahlawat, carrying the Tricolour, while senior Air Force officers carried the service flags with precision and grace. As the helicopters passed overhead, they showered flower petals on the parade route, drawing applause and emotional reactions from spectators.

A Salute to Leadership and Bravery

The parade was commanded by Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, a highly respected officer with decades of service in some of India’s toughest military operations, including Siachen, Dras, and counter-terror missions in the Northeast. As he marched past the dais and saluted the President, the moment symbolised discipline, dedication, and duty.

Adding to the pride, India’s bravest heroes — Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra awardees — were honoured before the nation. Among them were Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar, whose courage continues to inspire generations.
