Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over the deadly boat capsizing incident in Jabalpur and announced financial assistance for victims and their families. Calling the loss of lives “extremely painful,” he conveyed condolences to the bereaved and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh will be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased, while ₹50,000 will be given to those injured in the mishap. The Prime Minister also noted that local authorities are actively engaged in relief and support efforts for those affected.
The tragedy occurred at the Bargi Dam reservoir, where a tourist cruise boat capsized during adverse weather conditions. The death toll has risen to nine, with rescue teams continuing search operations to locate those still missing. Several passengers were rescued, while others sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Minister Dharmendra Singh Lodhi ordered a probe into the accident and assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for lapses. Authorities remain on high alert as rescue operations continue and support is extended to grieving families.
