Tight Monitoring Planned for Counting Day
With vote counting for the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, the Election Commission of India has stepped up its oversight by sending additional officials to the state. A total of 165 more counting observers and 77 police observers have been deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the process.
These fresh deployments will work alongside the existing observers already assigned across constituencies, strengthening supervision during the crucial counting phase.
Enhanced Security Outside Counting Centres
Officials indicated that while counting observers will be stationed inside centres to monitor procedures, police observers will focus on maintaining law and order in surrounding areas. Unlike typical arrangements, these police observers will remain outside the counting venues and will not be permitted inside.
Their role will primarily involve overseeing security arrangements, crowd management, and ensuring a peaceful environment during the counting process.
Counting Set for May 4 After Two-Phase Polling
The West Bengal Assembly elections were conducted in two phases, held on April 23 and April 29, covering all 294 seats. With counting scheduled for May 4, authorities are taking additional precautions to avoid disruptions and maintain transparency.
The heightened deployment reflects the importance of the final stage of the election process, as the state prepares for the declaration of results amid a politically charged atmosphere.
