Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has strongly condemned the rape and murder of a minor girl in Pune district, stating that the accused will face the harshest legal consequences. He said the state will push for capital punishment and ensure the case is handled through a fast-track court to deliver swift justice.
Incident Unfolds in Bhor Taluka
The crime took place in Nasrapur village of Bhor taluka, where the victim had been staying with her grandmother. Police said a 65-year-old local resident allegedly lured the child before the incident occurred. The case came to light after the girl was reported missing, prompting a search by family members and villagers, during which her body was discovered.
Investigators stated that CCTV footage from the area helped identify the suspect, leading to his arrest shortly after.
Public Anger Leads to Protests and Bandh
The incident has triggered widespread outrage across the region. Residents staged demonstrations demanding strict action, including a road blockade and a complete shutdown in Nasrapur. Shops remained closed as locals expressed grief and anger over the crime. A large protest march was also organised from Bhairavnath Temple, where villagers gathered in support of the victim’s family.
Police Promise Swift Investigation
Sandip Singh Gill said that authorities are working on a priority basis and a chargesheet will be filed within 15 days. He confirmed that the case has been registered under serious charges, including rape and murder, and further investigation is ongoing.
